When doing restorations, we always strive to save as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. Porcelain inlays and onlays, sometimes referred to as partial crowns, are a good middle ground between fillings and full crowns; they’re utilized when a filling alone is not enough, but when there’s still a healthy portion of enamel worth saving.
Partial crowns are like puzzle pieces, specially crafted out of porcelain, gold, or composite to fit seamlessly with the rest of your tooth.
Procedurally, partial crowns are almost identical to crowns, typically requiring two or three appointments for completion. At the first appointment, we remove decay and prepare the tooth for the restoration. We’ll also take impressions, so it will fit properly and achieve the most aesthetic possible result. At your second appointment, the inlay or onlay is placed for a beautiful, lasting restoration.
